Privacy policy

In short. Ocrette recognises the text of your images directly on your device. No image, no text and no page address is ever sent to anyone. The extension uses no account, no ads and no usage analytics. Only one piece of data can leave your device: your licence key, together with the device name you choose, and only if you activate the Pro version.
1. Data controller

2. Data processed only on your device
- Captures and images. When you start Ocrette (keyboard shortcut, click on its icon or context menu), the browser captures the visible part of the tab, or the image you chose. When you open a file (image or PDF) in the extension, it is read in memory. Text recognition runs inside the extension, on your device: only the area you select is read, then the capture is cleared from memory. No image is saved or transmitted.
- Recognised texts. They are shown in the extension and copied to your clipboard. With the Pro version, and only if the "Keep a local history of texts" option is on, the last 200 texts are kept on the device, with the date, the languages and the type of input (area, image, file, PDF), with no image and no page address. You can delete them at any time in the settings.
- Your settings (languages, copy and formatting options), saved in your browser's extension storage. If you turned on your browser's sync, the browser may copy them to your other devices under its own privacy policy.
- Today's extraction counter of the free version (a date and a number).
- Your licence status (key, activation identifier, check dates), kept on the device so that Pro keeps working offline.
We have no access to this data.
3. Data sent if you activate Pro

No image, no recognised text and no page address is part of these exchanges.
Purchases happen on Polar's checkout page: Polar collects your payment and billing details under its privacy policy. We never see your card details. Polar shares with us the information needed to track sales and provide support (email address, country, order, licence).
Polar is based in the United States: data transfers involved in a purchase or a licence check are covered by the safeguards described in Polar's privacy policy.
4. What we never do
- No selling or renting of data, no advertising, no profiling.
- No analytics, no cookies, no trackers in the extension.
- No code and no language model downloaded from the Internet: the recognition engine and the languages ship in the package reviewed by the extension stores.
- No permanent access to websites: the extension only sees a page after your action, and only in that tab.
5. Permissions requested
- Active tab (activeTab): capture the visible part of the tab and show the selection tool in it, only after your action.
- Scripting: show the selection and the result panel in that tab.
- Context menus (contextMenus): offer "Copy text from image" on right-click.
- Offscreen document (offscreen): run the recognition engine in the background, on your device.
- Storage: keep your settings, today's counter, the optional history and the licence on the device.
6. Retention
- Captures and images: for the duration of the recognition, in memory only.
- History (Pro): until you delete it, limited to the last 200 texts.
- Other local data: until you uninstall the extension, or until you deactivate the licence for licence data.
- Data held by Polar: according to Polar's privacy policy and legal obligations.
- Support emails: three years after the last contact.
7. Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete or port your data, and you can restrict or object to its processing, by writing to bryan.cellier.pro@gmail.com. You may also lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL (www.cnil.fr), or with your local authority.
To remove the licence from a device, use the "Deactivate on this device" button in the extension settings, or your Polar customer portal. Uninstalling the extension deletes all local data.
8. Changes
Any change to this policy is dated above. If the extension ever processed new data, you would be informed in the extension before anything is sent.
